Whos Making Money
…anathema, in part because, as it does across so much of the West, the federal government owns much of the state as an inattentive landlord. So the “outsider” label sticks pretty well, even on major party candidates.
In 1992, H. Ross Perot grabbed a quarter of the presidential vote, handing the state to soon-to-be President Clinton. In 1996, Perot took 10%. Sorry, Bob Dole.
During the 2008 Nevada Republican caucus, conservative Ron Paul came in second, though most of the top candidates skipped the state won by Mitt Romney.
This time around, there’s also a lot of anger brewing over Washington’s economic and spending policies, which haven’t seemed to stimulate much in Nevada, except anger and debate. The unemployment rate is the country’s second-highest (13%) and state lawmakers are talking about budget cuts that would strip elementary schools of teachers, the mentally ill of housing and the poor and incontinent of diapers.
No surprise then, as our colleague Kathleen Hennessey reported Monday, that Tea-publicans are making their presence felt in Nevada (along with several other states). And you'll never guess which popular former Alaska Republican governor will speak at a Tea Party rally in Harry Reid's hometown next month.
So, by virtue of his existence, potential candidate Jon Ashjian – whoever he is – could make a big difference in Nevada’s hotly-contested Senate race. Reid’s poll numbers stink, but even the most prominent of his potential GOP opponents are considered second-tier.
A conservative third-party candidate party didn't stop Republicans from winning the governor's office in strongly Democratic New Jersey last November. But this is Nevada.
A credible third party option could split conservative votes enough to make Harry Reid (who's welcoming President Obama Friday to his favorite place to blow money not reserved for college tuition) very, very happy.

Just read the story about the deal that cost Jay-Z 20,000 dollars a day. That seems like a lot for anyone in this economy. I hope he recoups his money but the lawyer fees will most likely suck up most of it.

There is an equal amount of corruption right here in our own governement, @Shamrock. The only difference is, they sweep it under the rug and do great public service things to clean up the money and their image. Think about the Kennedy family. Famous in politics, philanthropy and all that. But guess what? Oldman Joe Kennedy was a gangsta that ran illegal moonshine, etc. etc. However, THEY know how to clean stuff up well.
Obiang is a dictator with access to BILLIONS of dollars in oil money. Of course they’re corrupt….and he’s been President for like 30 years there. Eve was cashing in with Junior, but Junior got real dirty money, and they gonna squeeze her hard to get to him. I hope it was worth it for her.

I sympathize with EVE. I was engaged to a Nigerian guy who is facing federal charges for identity theft and so many of you are right, most African can’t be trusted, are out for self and will let you take the fall for/with them. Their families condone whatever bs they get involved in if they can profit from it. You begin to feel like corruption is a genetic thing. Even their mothers lie to protect them! Now her back is against the wall and I can guarantee he isn’t going to do anything to help her now. But what did she think would happen? Nothing positive would ever come from blood money.

Eve must have been really low on cash but then again she hasnt done shizz in a long time, so am not surprised she was getting his dirty money. This is true about the African leader and his entire family. Guinea is rich in oil and the royal family banks in a lot and the people are dying of poverty, but its no surprise its Africa, corruption, corruption and corruption.
